This week, I am going to Boston Drupalcon 2008, where I’ll be joining 800 other people in a Drupal geekfest. It can’t be anything but helpful to get the benefit of sharing Drupal experiences with others, and I’m hoping to learn loads. Building the diocesan web site was a great learning experience, but there’s a lot more to learn, particularly from the design and user experience point of view.
Wait a minute. What’s Drupal, you say? Ah, first a bit of back story, since I haven’t posted in a while - it seems that having a regular, day-to-day job has put a kink in my posting:
Over the summer of 2007, I learned (and am continuing to learn) Drupal, a PHP-based content management system. It’s quite fantastic because it is open source, and because it is extensible through the contribution of numerous modules. I’ve discovered that the modules vary in quality, but the mere fact that you can build a web site with amazingly sophisticated capabilities with this system is fabulous (or, as my co-workers often say, “a blessing”).
So, tomorrow, I head out to Drupalcon to see what I can see.

Last weekend, my friend Greg and I went to see the movie 300, based on the Frank Miller graphic novel. Depending on how you look at it, the movie is about a) the valiant stand of the Spartans against the Persians at Thermopylae, b) the glorious victory of the Persians over the Greeks at Thermopylae, c) America vs. Iraq, d) America vs. Iran, e) scantily clad Aryan gym bunnies fighting dark-skinned blowhards in pointy helmets and the remnants of Michael Jackson’s menagerie, or f) Xerxes’ makeup and accessorizing tips.
The movie has a definite style …read on…

One of my favorite regions of France is Brittany, which is more or less the Maine of France (not to be confused, of course with the Maine, which is a a tributary of the Loire and actually is in France).
Brittany has a beautiful, rugged coastline which explodes with flowers in the spring, with a helping hand from the French, of course. There are numerous picturesque islands including the unutterably beautiful Ile de Breihat, and in the north on the border with Normandy, the spectacular Mont St. Michel.
One of the other notable things …read on…
